Vi firar födelsedagar och simmar med Manta Rays i Tikehau

Vi kom sent på eftermiddagen till Tikehau och tog en boj precis innanför passet. Nästa morgon simmade vi i det turkosa vattnet med hajar och vackra fiskar runt båten innan vi satte segel mot östra delen av atollen och Pink Beach. 

Det blev en så vacker segling inne i atollen, där är vågorna alltid små och vi kunde verkligen njuta. Vi hade bara satellit bilder på denna turen så vi satt framme på däck och spanade efter koraller som vi inte ville köra på. 

Vi hittade en sådan vacker plats, helt själva framför en palmbeklädda motus med vit korallsand. Några av oss SUP:ade in till stranden och vissa snorklade. Vi såg rockor under SUP:en, haj och ännu fler vackra fiskar. På motusen hittade vi en gunga som vi lekte med och Hugo och Hannes klättrade upp i palmer och tog ner kokosnötter för att samla både kokosvatten och kokoskött. Vi badade och lekte på stranden, fikade under ett hyddtak och njöt av denna overkligt vackra plats. Inte förrän solen började gå ner simmade och paddlade vi tillbaka till båten och åt en härlig middag. Vi gick fram och tittade på stjärnorna innan vi gick och la oss. Så häftigt med en helt annorlunda stjärnhimmel här på södra halvklotet. När vi ligger så här helt själva och inga hus eller andra ljus än månen blir det extra vackert! 

Nästa morgon paddlade jag och Jimmy tidigt en tur i det spegelblanka vattnet. Väl tillbaka tog Hugo och morfar och jag och mormor en paddeltur. Så underbart när vattnet ligger så stilla och det är så klart! 

Idag hade vi bestämt att det var Heddas 3 års dag igen och Hugos 13 års dag (som egentligen är 20 juni) så att mormor och morfar också fick fira våra födelsedagsbarn. Hannes blev också firad som både storebror och lillebror hihi. Ja det blev paket från Sverige som alla blev väldigt glada för!! Dessutom sjöng vi för Jimmy också, för även han har fyllt år! 

Självklart ville alla leka med sina paket en stund innan vi snorklade in till stranden för att njuta och leka en sista stund på denna plats innan vi drog upp ankaret och gick mot nästa stopp. Nästa stopp var väldigt speciellt, en litet litet rev mitt i atollen där Manta Rays har sin ”cleaning station”. Vi hann precis lägga ankaret innan det blev mörkt. Kändes lite konstigt att ankra så här oskyddat mitt i men det skull bli en lugn kväll och natt. 

Sent på kvällen blev tyvärr Hannes och Hedda lite dåliga i magen och kräktes. Jag, Jimmy och morfar hade redan haft vår tur för några dagar sedan.  Vi valde att Hugo, Hannes, Hedda, Jimmy och jag sov ute. Det blev inte mer magsjuka, det gick över väldigt fort så vi fick en riktigt mysig natten ute på däck, skönt! 

Nästa dag var ingen vanlig dag! Vi skulle tidigt hoppa i vattnet och försöka hitta dessa magnifika Manta Rays , innan turbåtar från resorten som låg i byn en bit bort kom med snorklare och dykare. Dessutom var det mormors födelsedag!!! Det blev en snabb sång och skål gröt, därefter hoppade  vi i jollen. Hugo har verkligen djurögon, plötsligt skriker han : Där, under oss är en Manta! Vi hoppade alla i och mycket riktigt vi fick en helt fantastisk stund i vattnet med dessa stora underbara djur! Så glad att mormor och morfar också fick se dem i det vilda!! Wow, vilken otrolig känsla när de kommer svävande under och bredvid en!

 Otroligt nöjda kom vi tillbaka till båten och förberedde för en andra frukost och nu ett hejdundrandes firande av mormor med sång och paket! 

Därefter tuffade vi (tyvärr ingen vind för segling) till byn och ankrade utanför. Det blev bad, fotboll och pinacolada med kokosvattnet vi själva skaffat. Ja en riktig födelsedags skål på stranden. Jag och Jimmy gick in till den lilla affären för att proviantera men det fanns väldigt lite mat förutom konserver. Imorgon kommer båten med färsk frukt, grönt och mer mat sa affärsägare. 

Sista dagen i Tuamotos avslutade vi med en liten tur för att utforska byn och Tikehau till fots. Vi gick och gick genom vackra palmstigar i väldig hetta. Snart är vi framme vid glass och fika stället uppmuntrade jag alla där vi gick och svettades. Vi kom fram men tyvärr var det stängt, nej!! Vi fick iallafall inhandlat kallt vatten som vi drack. Sen fortsatte turen till andar sidan motusen där vi badade och gick längst en väldigt fin  intensivt grön allé med massor av exotisk växter, bananträd, papajträd, blommor och plamer! Svetten rann och vi hann bli riktigt hungriga. Båten som skulle kommit med mat hade inte alls kommit så det blev inget inhandlat. Vi pratade med en del lokals som alla rekommenderade oss att gå tillbaka till den lilla hamnen där vi la till med jollen för där fanns en fin restaurang. Äntligen kom vi fram och fick gå in i skugga. Vi beställde mat (fast nästan allt på menyn var slut haha) Efter en timmes väntan frågade vi vad som hände och de sa att det skulle dröja länge till innan maten kom. Vi gav upp och betalade för drickan. Det var inte tänkt att vi skulle få varken glass, fika, mat eller provianterat på denna atoll haha!! För att tajma utseglingen med strömmen och innan det blev mörkt hade vi nu brott om.

Vi skyndade tillbaka till vår båt och värmde rester som vi åt med hull och hår. Vi tog ett snabbt dopp i havet innan vi sa hejdå till hela Tuamotus öarna och började gå mot Tahiti och Sällskapsöarna!!

We arrived late in the afternoon to Tikehau and took a buoy just inside the pass.  The next morning we swam in the turquoise water with sharks and beautiful fish around the boat before setting sail for the eastern part of the atoll and Pink Beach.

 It was such a beautiful sailing inside the atoll. Here the waves are always small and we really enjoyed ourselves.  We only had satellite images on this trip so we sat in on deck and scouted for corals that we didn’t want to run over.

 We found such a beautiful spot, all by ourselves in front of a palm clad motus with white coral sand.  Some of us took the stand up paddle boards to the beach and some snorkelled.  We saw rays under the paddle boards, shark and even more beautiful fish.  On the motus we found a swing that we played with and Hugo and Hannes climbed up into palm trees and took down coconuts to collect both coconut water and coconut meat.  We swam and played on the beach, had coffee under a hut roof and enjoyed this unreal beautiful place.  Not until the sun started to set did we swim and paddle back to the boat and had a lovely dinner.  We went and looked at the stars before going to bed.  So cool with a completely different  sky here in the southern hemisphere.  When we anchore like this all by ourselves and no houses or lights other than the moon, it becomes extra beautiful!

The next morning, Jimmy and I took an early paddle in the mirror-like water.  Once back, Hugo and grandfather and me and grandmother took a paddle trip.  So wonderful when the water is so still and it’s so clear!

 Today we had decided that it was Hedda’s 3rd birthday again and Hugo’s 13th birthday (which is actually June 20) so that grandma and grandpa could also celebrate our birthday children.  Hannes was also celebrated as both big brother and little brother hihi.  They gave  packages from Sweden that everyone was very happy about!!  we sang for Jimmy too, because he too has had his birthday!

 Of course everyone wanted to play with their new presents for a while before we snorkelled to the beach to enjoy and play one last time in this place before we pulled up the anchor and headed for the next stop.  The next stop was very special, a small reef in the middle of the atoll where Manta Rays have their ”cleaning station”.  We just managed to drop anchor before it got dark.  It felt a bit strange to anchor like this unprotected in the middle of the atoll, but it should be a calm evening and night.

Late in the evening, unfortunately, Hannes and Hedda got a little sick to their stomachs and vomited.  Me, Jimmy and grandpa had already had our turn a few days ago.  We chose that Hugo, Hannes, Hedda, Jimmy and I slept outside.  There was no more stomachache, it passed very quickly so we had a really cozy night out on deck.

 The next day was no ordinary day!  We would jump into the water early and try to find these magnificent Manta Rays, before tour boats from the resort that was in the village a bit away came with snorkelers and divers.  Also, it was grandma’s birthday!!!  There was a quick song and toast, then we jumped in the dinghy.  Hugo really has animal eyes, suddenly he shouts: -There, below us is a Manta!  We all jumped in and really had an absolutely fantastic time in the water with these big wonderful animals!  So glad Grandma and Grandpa got to see them in the wild too!!  Wow, what an incredible feeling when they come hovering under and next to you!

  Incredibly satisfied, we returned to the boat and prepared for a second breakfast and now a great celebration of grandma with song and packages!

After that we tacked (unfortunately no wind for sailing) to the village and anchored outside.  We went to the beach played football and had pinacolada with the coconut water we got ourselves.  Yes, a real birthday toast on the beach! Jimmy and I went into the little store to stock up but there was very little food except canned goods.  -Tomorrow the boat will arrive with fresh fruit, vegetables and more food, said the business owner.

 The last day in the Tuamotus we ended with a small trip to explore the village and Tikehau on foot.  We walked and walked through beautiful palm paths in the scorching heat.  -Soon we will arrive at the ice cream and coffee place, I encouraged everyone as we walked and sweated.  We arrived but unfortunately it was closed, no!!  At least we could buy cold water.  Then the tour continued to the other side of the motus where we swam and walked along a very nice intensely green alley  with lots of exotic plants, banana trees, papaya trees, flowers and plums!  The sweat was flowing and we got really hungry.  The boat that was supposed to bring food had not arrived at all, so nothing was bought.  We talked to some locals who all recommended us to go back to the small harbour where we docked with the dinghy because there was a nice restaurant.  Finally we arrived and had to go into the shade.  We ordered food (although almost everything on the menu was sold out haha) After an hour of waiting, we asked what happened and they said it would take a long time before the food arrived.  We gave up and paid for the drink.  It was not intended that we would get ice cream, coffee, food or provisions on this atoll haha!!  In order to time the departure with the current and before it got dark, we now had to hurry up.

 We hurried back to our boat and heated leftovers.  We took a quick dip in the sea before saying goodbye to the entire Tuamotu Islands and started heading towards Tahiti and the Society Islands!!
